I had a chance to spend a Saturday afternoon with hockey players from the Toledo Fire Department and their talented counterparts over the ice - the Arctic Wolves Sled Hockey Team of Northwest Ohio. They battled it out on the ice for their annual fundraiser for the group, which puts people with disabilities on the ice for sled hockey, an all-inclusive version of hockey that works for everyone.
The Toledo Fire team is routinely trounced in this game, and this year was no exception, although notable in that it marked the first time TFD was able to score a goal on the Arctic Wolves. Maybe next year!
If you want to know more about sled hockey or want to get involved in some capacity, you can learn more on the Arctic Wolves website.
Toledo Fire has a game this Sunday, April 9th against the US Coast Guard team; game play starts at noon at Tam'O Shanter in Sylvania. Toledo Walleye will be coaching both teams; donations are accepted at the door and proceeds go towards Local 92 Charities and the Coast Guard Hockey Association.
